Today has been day 11 of my challenge to get 8 hours of sleep for 30 days straight.
Every day I’ll share my FitBit Surge sleep data.
Aside from that, I want to document how I’m doing in terms of changing my habits:
- No more screens, from 1 hour before bedtime.
- Go for a 15 minute walk during the day.
- No coffee after noon.
- Use my thoughts to get to a place of gratitude before I go to sleep and when I wake up.
Day 11: 8hrs 57min
I reached my goal.
I was talking to my girlfriend until midnight so I went to sleep late, but I made sure to sleep in by only setting my alarm after 9AM.

No more screens, 1 hour before bedtime
Goal reached?
No. Not literally.
Since I was using Google Hangouts when I was chatting with my girlfriend, I got a lot of screentime, the hour before bed.
However I enjoyed it so much, I don’t think I would have wanted to skip that because “I’m not going to look at any screens right before bed”.
The benefits of seeing and talking to a loved one, either in real life or through a screen, still trumps the “no screens before bed” argument, I believe.
Unless I would be living a life where I talk to the people I love, friends, family et cetera, every single day. Then I would still stick to the “no screen” rule.
Go for a 15 minute walk
Goal reached?
Yes. I had a soccer game in the afternoon so I definitely “walked” for more than 15 minutes during warm up and game time. I only wore my watch during warm up though.

However, it is not a walk that’s intended to calm me down, but rather excercise to get me fired up. So.. mmm but I’ll give myself a pass.
No coffee after noon
Yes. Done that.
Be in a place of gratitude
Yes. Score!
As I was talking to my girlfriend in Brazil, I was feeling really grateful for all the love I receive.
So again, like I’ve noticed in other nights: It’s great to be actively engaged with someone, in a real conversation, to feelgrateful and experience that feeling.
