Day 10: 30 days – get 8 hours of sleep

Today has been day 10 of my challenge to get 8 hours of sleep for 30 days straight.

Every day I’ll share my FitBit Surge sleep data.

Aside from that, I want to document how I’m doing in terms of changing my habits:

  • No more screens, from 1 hour before bedtime.
  • Go for a 15 minute walk during the day.
  • No coffee after noon.
  • Use my thoughts to get to a place of gratitude before I go to sleep and when I wake up.

Day 10: 8hrs 19min

I reached my goal.

I went to sleep at 1:05 AM, after having spent the night talking and laughing with a good friend in Antwerp.

We drove back to Holland after that (yay for carpooling!) so it was already past midnight when I got to my hometown.

I had planned to Skype with my dad in Saudi Arabia in the morning and do 1 thing for a freelance project and finish it at night but I also wanted to get 8 hours in. So I set an alarm after 9, put in my newly delivered earbuds made for sleeping and went to sleep.

Anyway, I got 8 hours!

No more screens, 1 hour before bedtime

I reached my goal.

Since I was enjoying my time at night with a friend and going to bed straight after I got home, I was able to stay clear from my screens.

It’s definitely a challenge to not go and “just check Facebook or YouTube” for 10 minutes, but it helps if I’m really tired and feeling well after a long day to just forget about that and go to sleep.

Go for a 15 minute walk

I reached my goal.

It was “just another day at the office” so I went outside for a walk during lunch break with some colleagues.

It was easy, once again.

No coffee after noon

I reached my goal.

Not a problem.

Be in a place of gratitude

I reached my goal. (!)

Meeting up with a good friend of mine and having real conversations really made me become very present and I felt very grateful for that moment and other people, choices past and future…

It’s amazing to notice how much I thrive on real conversations and real relationships.
