Today has been day 3 of my challenge to get 8 hours of sleep for 30 days straight.
Every day I’ll share my FitBit Surge sleep data.
Aside from that, I want to document how I’m doing in terms of changing my habits:
- No more screens, from 1 hour before bedtime.
- Go for a 15 minute walk during the day.
- No coffee after noon.
- Use my thoughts to get to a place of gratitude before I go to sleep and when I wake up.
Day 3: 7 hrs 18min
I did not reach my goal.
Went to bed at 1:30 after celebrating one of my clients’ birthday at a bar in Antwerp. I woke up a little before 7, like I usually do during the week. I went back to sleep shortly after that.
So definitely did not get those 8 hours AND my sleep was interrupted.

No more screens, 1 hour before bedtime
Goal reached?
Yes. I was able to enjoy my time with the people at the bar without my phone.
Granted, I used it to support a conversation. But I did not stare at a bright screen for longer than 30 seconds.
Go for a 15 minute walk
Goal reached?
Yes. I walked for 15 minutes during lunch break with another colleague.

How was it?
Easy peasy. The sun was shining and we had good conversation.
No coffee after noon
Goal reached?
Yes. No coffee. Nada.
How was it?
Easy game.
Be in a place of gratitude
Goal reached?
Yeah.
How was it?
Interesting like always.
It was a good way to end the day, by hanging out with one of my clients and having a good time.
It made me appreciate what I have in terms of business and relationships. This makes me really happy.
I was also reminded of other things that are fun to me, like my upcoming CrossFit session, and a conversation about this sleep challenge.
Anyway, it’s interesting to see that I don’t necessarily have to be alone, and/or quiet to be in a place of gratitude.
It seems like I get to that space easier, when I am doing things that make me happy or excite me.
But let’s test that 😉 That’s why it’s an experiment.
