Today has been day 4 of my challenge to get 8 hours of sleep for 30 days straight.
Every day I’ll share my FitBit Surge sleep data.
Aside from that, I want to document how I’m doing in terms of changing my habits:
- No more screens, from 1 hour before bedtime.
- Go for a 15 minute walk during the day.
- No coffee after noon.
- Use my thoughts to get to a place of gratitude before I go to sleep and when I wake up.
Day 4: 8hrs 32min
I reached my goal.
I went to bed a little after midnight.
I was super tired after my first soccer practice session of the season, earlier this day.
I met up with two friends, new and old at night which kept me up until around midnight when I decided it was time to call it a night.

No more screens, 1 hour before bedtime
Goal reached?
Yes. I was enjoying my time conversing with my friends.
You know, when you’re out of the house, it’s a lot easier to not get distracted by Facebook, YouTube, etc.
However, in a quiet moment, or even when the other person leaves for a bathroom break, the urge to just pick up my phone and open some apps is still there.
It’s just become a natural reflex.
So when I catch that in myself I stop and remind myself to be present where I am.
Go for a 15 minute walk
Goal reached?
Yes. I had my first soccer practice so I moved around like crazy.
Look at all those beautiful green bars. That means I’m doing something right 😉

How was it?
I loved it.
It was the first day of soccer after summer break.
I mean… That smell of freshly cut grass……
I just love playing and it’s just so good to focus on something completely different and be all caught up in the game… I also laugh my ass off with some of my teammates so that’s a huge plus too.
Basically, all these things that make it awesome are things that keep me in the present moment, fully engaged.
This is a picture from a year ago but I wanted to put it in there because it’s the exact same pitch I was training on yesterday.
No coffee after noon
Goal reached?
Yes. Pshhh, this is getting too boring, right?
How was it?
Easy. Once again.
Well, hold on… I must say: I definitely had the craving for a coffee, late at night after I had a big fat cheatmeal called “Kapsalon”. So it would have been pretty easy for me to go ahead and get one, but I didn’t so I guess it wasn’t the easiest day.
Be in a place of gratitude
Goal reached?
Yeah. Sort of.
How was it?
It was relatively easy.
Because I was meeting a new friend and was hanging out with another friend whom I have known for longer, I was in a good place.
I love meeting new people and getting to know their stories. And I love hanging out with my friend to talk about life.
So it’s taking up more time, closer to bedtime to hang out with people. But it seems that it’s very good for creating that space of gratitude. Given that I am around the right people, of course.
Here’s a great controversial video from Prince Ea about “the right kind of people” in your life:
